Our Story

It all started with the old Red Lion pub

From old to new

The idea for The Forges started as far back as 2019. The opportunity arose to work alongside a well regarded property company to redevelop the old Red Lion pub on Broad Street, Staple Hill opposite the main entrance to Page Park.

The Forges team wanted to bring a new destination venue to Staple Hill High Street and start the journey of creating a great dining experience for the people of Bristol and beyond…

"We wanted the Forge & Fern to be enjoyed by all, whether that be for a coffee morning with the little ones, a brunch catch-up with a friend, an on-the-go business lunch, a dinner with drinks at the weekend or a quick pit-stop on the bike as you come off the Bristol to Bath railway path."

When we heard about this fantastic Victorian building being redeveloped, we knew straight away this could be something really special. We had often visited the area and would find ourselves with limited options for food, especially those of a gastro-pub style. As foodies we made it our mission to change that - our aim from then on was to work closely with local people and businesses to help accelerate the regeneration of the area through great food and hospitality.

Working alongside an established developer, we could tailor the design and layout of the commercial space to a completely bespoke Forges format. We've been heavily design focused throughout, ensuring quality stayed at the forefront of the project whilst we breathed life into an exciting new food & drink venue.

“We can’t wait to welcome all of our new locals to see what we’ve done with such an iconic Staple Hill venue. We're really looking forward to serving up some great food and drinks and becoming part of the community.”
