Whilst our living wall is undoubtedly a kerbside showstopper, the real jewel in the Forge & Fern crown is our garden in the sky and our rooftop hives.
Hidden away on our roof is a garden that carries many of the herbs and botanicals you find in your dishes and drinks; some veggies are on the way too, as well as 6 very busy hives.
Our plans were always to keep our foodie footprint low, keen to keep things local meaning that not only is your food as fresh as it can be, our community and neighbours are impacted as little as possible.
Three members of our Forges team put their hands up to step into a bee-keeping role even before we opened. One year on and their skills have clearly developed because our honey is PLENTIFUL! and award-winning. That’s right we scored a silver -medal for our honey in 2022 in a regional competition commended for its flavour.
So our honey features in The Forges Wildflower Honey Dessert, in our honey-dressing in our popular burrata dish and in some very special limited edition cocktails too.

This means that they help other plants grow! Bees transfer pollen between the male and female parts, allowing plants to grow seeds and fruit.
They use this to communicate within the hive and to recognise different types of flowers when looking for food.
During this time, she’ll produce around a twelfth of a teaspoon of honey.
