Whilst Bristol is pretty much our specialist subject, when we were working in and around Staple Hill we were excited to discover an area of Bristol we knew so little about but offered so much.
The architecture of Staple Hill being largely made up of Victorian properties with embellished roof ridges and eaves with archetypal Bristol brickwork decorating the streets felt like home. The high-street with an array of excellent bustling independent shops including butchers, grocers, ironmongers, sweetshops, pet shops, bakers, cobblers, eco shops and a variety of eateries all welcomed us with open arms – for which we will always be grateful. Many of these local businesses have told us that they want to work together with us as part of the community to keep improving our high street.
The area is blossoming, and not just at Page Park, and we are hoping to very much be a part of this new wave of excitement adding another attraction and the momentum that it so rightly deserves.
One of the best things about Staple Hill is the beautiful Page Park that lucky for us sits opposite the Forge & Fern. With a recent £1.6 million grant awarded in 2015 the park has had some major improvements including a new café, refurbishment of the tennis pavilion, general refurbishments and restorative projects and investment into training and skills for the volunteers taking part in the care of the park. We often stroll there on lunch breaks, or grab a coffee there too, super lucky for the oxygen and space it offers whilst making new friends along the way too.
We spoke to The Staple Hill Chamber of Trade, who told us “we would all like Staple Hill to become an area where the locals feel safe for them and their children. A place to shop, socialise and relax with their family and friends.” We couldn’t agree more, and we think that working together and investing in the high street will continue to create something really wonderful.
Community is at the heart of Staple Hill, and we feel privileged to be a part of it.
